Casa
Laurin is located a few minutes away from the capital.
You can do the Historic Walking Tour of San Jose on your own,
or a guided tour of Barrio Lujan where you can talk to
"real people", or visit one of the museums
(National, Gold, Jade, Science, Children, etc.) or the
zoo. You can walk the pedestrian mall of Central Avenue
and visit the famous central market and the many souvenir
shops. Our English speaking taxi driver will take you
there or if you prefer, you can take a 1/2 day bus tour
(morning or afternoon) - $30.

Tour

AVE
This is not only a bird zoo! Zoo Ave is a
rescue center and presents more than 100 bird species, 20
species of mammals and 15 of reptiles. If
you wish to add to your trip..."Snakes World" is
located a
little further on the way to Grecia.
You can hire our English speaking taxi driver ($12/hour). The full visit is likely to last 5-6 hours and you will
get a
commented tour of the country side on the way there.
Entrance fee to Zoo AVE is $15.

Butterfly
farm
It’s best to visit the
farm when it is sunny (mornings in the rainy season). The
Butterfly Farm of La Guacima opened in 1983 and was the first commercial
butterfly farm in Latin America. They export butterflies all
over the world. Their are experts in their field.

Poas
Volcano
Bus tour or private transportation. Poas is a strato
volcano that soars 2,708 meters above sea level and is one
of the most spectacular volcanoes in Costa Rica. Bus tour to Poas
is $42. Tours can include Poas
volcano only or more sites on the way. Prices will
vary from $62 to $85 depending on the number of additional
activities.

Grecia/Sarchi/Zarcero
See the "metal" church in Grecia and visit Sarchi,
the perfect
place to find those gifts for
family and friends. Travel a little further northwest and
you will run into one of the great curiosities of Costa Rica
- the special work of our own Edward Scissorhands at the
Zarcero church. You can hire our private taxi and stop
for lunch along the way for some inexpensive "comida
typica". About $20/hour for the service of our
bilingual driver and his minibus- the great Eduardo!

The Tortuguero National Park is especially famous for the
summer turtle hatching.
Tortuguero is the place where the four turtle species of the
world come to nest - the giant Leatherback, the Green turtle,

world due to the value of its shell used to produce crafts).
This area contains approximately 50% of the birds and
reptiles species of Costa Rica. Transportation,
